FAQ

1. Can ultrasound detect very small stones?

Yes. High‑resolution ultrasound can detect stones as small as 1–2 mm, especially in the submandibular gland.

2. Do I need any preparation before the exam?

No preparation is required. You can eat and drink normally.

3. Is ultrasound better than CT or MRI for salivary glands?

For most cases, ultrasound is the first‑line test because it is fast, safe, and excellent at detecting stones, inflammation, and superficial masses.

CT or MRI may be used only if deeper structures need evaluation.

4. Can ultrasound diagnose Sjögren’s syndrome?

Ultrasound can show characteristic changes in the salivary glands that support the diagnosis of Sjögren’s syndrome, such as heterogeneity, hypoechoic areas, and reduced gland size.

Who performs the exam at Ultra Medical Clinic?

  • At Ultra Medical Clinic, all salivary gland ultrasounds are performed by MSc. Dr. Mirlinde Daci, USA APCA  certified MD, an experienced ultrasound specialist known for high diagnostic accuracy.
